Latest Club News 29th October 2020

This is our very first newsletter together, and also the very first one out to you all since our centre closed in March this year - so there’s a lot to catch up on…

Firstly, we would like to acknowledge the incredible turnout at our extraordinary meeting Thursday 22nd October to elect our new Committee. We were a full house with 161 members attending. Our sincerest apologies to those we had to turn away due to the hall being at full capacity with the extra room at the back and sides utilised whilst still maintaining our COVID-safe measures as best as we could.

We wish to extend a massive thank-you to all of you for your extreme patience during the recent closures and really value your enthusiasm as well as your support to help return the centre into the fully thriving place it once was. Together we can do this! Our strength is our ability to work together towards our common goal and achieving what the club had set out to do. It’s been 43 years since our doors officially opened and we want to ensure its sustainability for many more years to come.

We wish to clarify that the stand-in committee who chaired this extra-ordinary meeting had been appointed by the previous President, namely Renae Barron.

Three loud cheers need to go to our newly elected Committee for taking on the next couple of months to help restore and rejuvenate the centre. Our new President is an amazing community leader in her own right, Jan Refeld, with another talented & community-focused lady, Lesley Bowers as Vice President.

We also congratulate our other wonderful committee members:

Barry Farmer – Treasurer
Lez Large – Secretary
Margaret Bishop
Ray Woodward
John Byron
John Bryce
Ron Borich

The new committee met for the first time Wednesday 28th October to appoint the positions of Secretary and Treasurer and to determine the best way to move forward. We then met with council to update our COVID-Safe Plan. We will be conducting weekly meetings until the proposed AGM IN DECEMBER, when the current committee will stand down and a new committee re-elected.

Our activities have begun to fill so please look out for the weekly updates as we confirm what is on. Please press “Subscribe to our Newsletter” via our website if you are not currently doing so. Sadly, our Rock & Roll teacher has passed away. Our deepest condolences go to Steph’s family, her friends & her students. Stephanie will be hugely missed as she has been part of our centre’s vibrant dance culture for a number of years.
